Man Survives on Ketchup for Weeks While Lost in The Caribbean Sea

Man Survives on Ketchup for Weeks While Lost in The Caribbean Sea” by Amber Breese analyzed by Yatso.R

This article was written by Amber Breese. She published it on January 25 2023.

This article is about Elvis Francois, an African American that comes from the Island of Dominica, he survived in The Caribbean Sea for 24-days with only Ketchup, Garlic Powder and Bouillon cubes to eat. The article starts simply by putting the reason behind all the story. It says that Mr. Elvis was lost off coast of Saint Martin with nothing but the ingredients listed earlier. Afterwards the article talks about the condition he had to live in and how he managed to deal with them. To make the article a little more fascinating, the author of this article used many phrases that came from the man himself who testified what he has been through. “I had no food. It was just a bottle of ketchup that was on the boat, garlic powder and Maggi (bouillon cubes) so I mixed it up with some water” said Elvis in an interview. The story continues and explains little by little how Mr. Francois spent his days and what he did to increase his chances of getting rescued. It is very encouraging to hear that at last he got saved even if he stated in another interview that he had lost hope of survival with the conditions he was in.

This article is clear and simple. It uses words most people would understand, the paragraphs are well separated and each of them are not too long to make the reading better for the readers. After each paragraph was a picture of Elvis to help the readers visualize how he looks like. Details that some readers would notice, such as the company that took care of Elvis, were not neglected by the author. Nevertheless, the author forgot to add some of the major point some readers, such as myself, would like to know. Like, why did no one search for him at the beginning? How much did he eat per day to survive? And how come he got no diseases? These were the questions I had after reading the article.

Even though the article was clear and surprisingly understandable, I wish she could still add more details. But overall, I would still recommend you guys to read it. Bye, until next time again.

  2. Hey!
I suggest you avoid using some words so much, such as "readers" and "article". That aside, the vibe of your analysis is great, not too formal! Well done!
